In spite of that (and a pretty campy climax), "Premium Rush" is clever, easy to follow and just plain fun. That's not to say the plot doesn't wobble at times under the weight of its quirky mix of characters and coincidences – it certainly does. The bike stunts littered throughout the movie go far in keeping the audience engaged, and the subplots (Wilee's romance with fellow bike messenger Vanessa and rivalry with Manny, among others) keep things moving. Once things get sorted out and the plot starts moving, though, it's hard not to like "Premium Rush." Its moves are as streamlined as Wilee's hypothetical bike paths (a slick visualization that, while a little cheesy, is still cool). That learning curve, however, makes the exposition difficult to navigate and unfortunately the entertainment value suffers at the outset as viewers work to figure out whether they walked into an action/comedy or just an unintentionally funny action movie. It's an unconventional approach to an unconventional plotline, and once the audience starts picking up what "Premium Rush" is putting down, it becomes a lot of fun to watch. Make peace with this reality, and you're in for a ride (pardon the pun), with bike sequences that will place you square at the handlebars of Wilee's bike, hoping you'll make it. It's a popcorn movie through and through, made for maximum momentum and white-knuckle thrills. The very first scene – Wilee flying in slow motion across the shot after being thrown from his bike – captures the movie's tongue-in-cheek action sensibility to a tee. Kids say ( 11 ): PREMIUM RUSH won't be mistaken for a complex masterpiece. Shannon's Monday gets his fair share of screen time to produce the plot's main conflict, bringing the intensity with his comically unhinged antagonist – a characteristic that sets the tone for the movie, for better or for worse.Īlthough it's unlikely movie-goers will walk into "Premium Rush" expecting a typical action movie, those who do will catch on quickly. Wilee is witty and affable, and his performance is as quick as the movie's pace. Gordon-Levitt is perfect in this lead role. He finds himself doggedly pursued by Michael Shannon's character, Bobby Monday, and soon comes to realize his problems may be more serious than stealthy maneuvers can handle. At its center is Wilee (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a daring cyclist thrust into a dangerous game of cat and mouse after he's tasked with delivering a mysterious envelope. The people behind "Premium Rush" disagree, and aim to convince audiences of the same with this whirlwind two-wheeled ride. I mean, chase scenes are nothing without the horsepower and collateral damage cars bring to the screen, right? It seems kind of ridiculous to base an action thriller around bike messengers. Later on in the evening, the travelers reveal themselves as angels and tell Abraham of the destruction that is to befall Sodom and Gomorrah. Although Abraham and Sarah do not realize it, they have passed the test and will be spared from the following destruction. Once there, they are persuaded by Abraham and Sarah to stay in their home as guests. The angels disguise themselves as travelers and go to Abraham’s city. The tale of the demise of Sodom and Gomorrah begins with the Lord sending three angels to go to the Earth and speak with Abraham and his wife Sarah. The Lord Sends Angels to Evaluate Sodom and Gomorrah However, the cause of the destruction of the cities remains largely theoretical. In fact, only one of the five plains cities is said to have been spared from the great storm of fire and brimstone, and is thought to have survived into modern day as Zoar. With so many terrible deeds that can be traced back to the city, it is no surprise that they were not allowed to thrive. The cycle would then begin again with a new victim. At this point in time, the citizens of these cities went through the pockets of the recently deceased and reclaimed their money. The citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah would continue to give the beggar copious amounts of money that should have sustained them for many months, but with no one willing to sell them food they eventually starved to death. The beggar who took the coin and attempted to buy food in their markets, however, would be met with a cruel surprise – no one in the city would sell them food. It was said that the evil people of Sodom and Gomorrah were known to take gold pieces (and other coins of high value) and write their names on the currency before giving it to a beggar. Some accounts tell of a particularly cruel practice that was employed to torture beggars to death. There are many accounts in which the people of Sodom and Gomorrah have been recorded raping, murdering, and torturing innocent people. They enjoyed making these people suffer greatly. People who lived in these plains areas were known to be especially cruel to travelers and beggars. The People Of Sodom and Gomorrah Were Known to Be TerribleĪlthough the story of Sodom and Gomorrah is best known because of its documentation in the Torah, Bible, and Quran, there are accounts outside of these sources that tell of the great wickedness that resided inside the cities. Due to issues with locating the site of Sodom and Gomorrah in modern day, however, many questions still remain. It is speculated that the terrible wickedness that the people of these cities descended into after being freed from the rule of Elam was the cause for their terrible fate. Four of the five cities would be destroyed with fire and brimstone sent directly from the Lord – the most notable of which are Sodom and Gomorrah. Unfortunately, the story would not end happily for the cities of the plains. Abraham’s forces were able to slaughter King Chedorlaomer’s army and free the plains cities from Elam’s rule. However, their defeat was turned to victory when Abraham decided to get involved on behalf of his nephew. The cities were spoiled of all their goods and captives were taken as slaves – including Lot. This resulted in a heavy loss of life among all of the plains cities, who were ultimately defeated. The king of Elam was King Chedorlaomer.Īfter the 13th year of the rule had begun, the 5 kings of the plains cities decided to band together and wage war against the kingdom of Elam. These kings were not seen as official rulers, however, because the entirety of the Jordan plain was ruled by the kingdom of Elam and had been for 12 years. Each of the Plains cities had their own king. It appears that the first issues of the plains cities can be traced back to discord among the ruling powers. Sodom and Gomorrah painting The Battle of Siddim They had settled in an area near the Dead Sea, with Lot and his followers choosing to make their stead in Dead Sea plains. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is closely connected to the story of Abraham and his nephew, Lot. Although these names aren’t always as personable and approachable, their clarity may appeal to some users. The advantage of this naming style is that the user already understands the bot’s purpose before interacting with it. A descriptive name, like Calorie-TrackBot, helps users build healthy eating habits or Book Club Bot for one that offers book recommendations. You might consider a robot name if you’re in an industry like tech, education, or finance. A robot name, like Bolt or Alpha, clarifies that the user is chatting with a non-human being, which can help avoid any confusion. They are formal and don’t distract from the topic at hand. These names are often suitable for banking, tax, or medical services. Here are a few common categories of chatbot names: The type you select depends on your industry, the tone of voice of your business, the purpose of your bot, and how you want customers to see your brand. For example, a bot that offers tips and advice on dog training can be easily found as BarkBot rather than Dog Obedience Bot. If customers are looking for your bot in their inbox, a unique name will make it easier to find. Chatbot’s name should welcome and even intrigue users. For example, Siri sounds more warm and friendly than Apple Smartphone Robot. Chatbots are still a relatively new technology, so pick a name that feels personable instead of intimidating. Why unique bot name mattersĭistinctive and unique names help companies stand out from the crowd. Read on for our top tips and key considerations if you wonder how to create a unique name for your chatbot. Some businesses simply use their company title as their bot’s name. For instance, I commonly use Safari and iA Writer at the same time. You can have multiple apps located and running in each stage. On the left side of the screen are more stages, with app(s) shown on small thumbnails. When enabled, Stage Manager creates an active stage where it shows an app or group of apps. Stage Manager is an optional feature you have to manually turn on or off in the Control Center. Stage Manager is useful (if you remember to use it) I’ve found that the farther away your iPhone is from you, the better off you are with getting everything lined up just right, but even then, the video doesn’t quite look right. The desk view feature sounds great however, I’ve had some issues getting it to look just right. There’s even a desk view that uses the iPhone’s cameras to create a video feed of your desktop so you can appear on the call and show a demonstration simultaneously. Then, you can use the camera controls on Control Center to turn on Portrait Mode, use Center Stage to keep you in the frame or use Stage Lighting to improve lighting conditions. Then, when on a call, select your iPhone as a camera option in the respective app’s settings page. And better yet, you don’t have to do anything to set it up other than bring your iPhone close to your Mac. I suspect Continuity Camera will become one of the more popular MacOS Ventura features because it turns your iPhone into a webcam for your Mac, something that’s long overdue. The new macOS Ventura will work on the following MacBooks and Mac desktops:Ĭontinuity Camera uses your iPhone as a webcam Download and install the Ventura installer, then follow the prompts to install the latest major macOS update. You’ll need to search the store for “macOS Ventura” to find it. MacOS Ventura will be available as an update through the Mac App Store. I’ve been using Ventura since it was first released in Apple’s beta program back in June, and my initial assessment has proven true: MacOS Ventura is a sneakily meaningful upgrade. There’s a completely new way of multitasking, a native option to use your iPhone as a webcam and new Messages, Photos and Mail features - to name a few. MacOS Ventura isn’t the same substantial update that last year’s macOS Monterey was, but it does bring several useful new features to Apple’s computer lineup. This is a particularly better system for people who need to be on the go, thanks to its focus on productivity apps. After a whirlwind of releases this fall, including four new iPhones, the AirPods Pro 2, two new iPads and iOS 16, Apple is ready to push the release button on the latest major software update for the Mac: macOS Ventura. By using the Developer Beta Access Utility app, you can start experiencing the improved and streamlined features of this new OS. MacOS Ventura is still unstable in its developer version, but it is already available for Apple ecosystem users looking to stay ahead of the curve. On the plus side, if you use supported devices, you can enjoy improved response times and new features. For example, only 2017 iMac models and 2018 MacBook Air models are supported. This means that depending on the particular gadget you have, you won’t be able to run the new OS. Lastly, the new OS also means that older devices will no longer be supported. Furthermore, updating means you won’t be able to use your device because it restarts a couple of times. There are different settings you can choose from, and also gives you the privilege of finding and reporting bugs in this OS version, although it also requires a paid subscription. Also, it’s currently limited to the developer version, which could give users an opportunity to spot weaknesses and have developers work on them and fix them for the full commercial release.Īdditionally, making the shift to Ventura at this stage requires you to have the macOS Developer Beta Access Utility app. As the successor to macOS Monterey, it boasts a lot of new features while also improving on existing features. MacOS Ventura was announced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2022, marking the 19th major macOS release. The clot dissolves typically within one to two days.ĭr. The catheter threads into the clotted vein, its tip is placed directly into the clot, and then a “clot busting” drug (see below for more about clot busters) is infused directly to the thrombus (clot). Kahn commonly inserts a catheter into the popliteal (located behind the knee) or other leg vein. The goal is to rapidly break up clot, restore blood flow within the vein, and increase the chances of preserving valve function to minimize the risk of post-thrombotic syndrome. Pregnant women should not take certain blood-thinning medications.ĭr. Kahn is one of the leading experts in Western Massachusetts to perform endovascular thrombectomy. Commonly, blood thinner pills are administered for three months or longer and should be followed as directed by your prescribing physician. Rivaroxaban (Xarelto), apixaban (Eliquis), or edoxaban (Savaysa) are given in pill form without the need for an injectable blood thinner. After warfarin has thinned from your blood, the injectable blood thinners are stopped. Periodic blood tests to check how long it takes your blood to clot are typically needed. Injectable blood thinners will often be given for a few days, and then pills such as warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven) or dabigatran (Pradaxa) are started. Similar blood thinners that are injected under the skin include: enoxaparin (Lovenox), dalteparin (Fragmin), or fondaparinux (Arixtra). Heparin is typically given intravenously. The injectable medications are administered as either a shot under the skin or by injection into your arm vein (intravenously). Contrary to popular belief, anticoagulants do not break down existing clots in the body. Rather, these drugs prevent the preexisting clots from growing in size and reduces the chances of more developing. Either injected or taken as a pill, these drugs decrease your blood’s ability to clot. DVTs are commonly treated with anticoagulants (know as blood thinners). Some primary differences between the older and newer designs revolve around their weight and internal navigation system. According to James Culliton, the GBU-72 Program Manager, “Lethality is expected to be substantially higher compared to similar legacy weapons like the GBU-28.”Ī few tests of the new design were executed in 2021, and new trials are expected to continue throughout 2022. Bunker Busters TodayĪ new and unfinished version of the bunker buster bomb known as the GBU-72 is expected to be more potent than its predecessors. However, it is not even half the size of the GBU-28, only weighing up to 2,000 pounds, making it easier to carry. To combat this, a smaller twin bomb known as the BLU-109 bunker buster bomb is used for the same purpose. Given its immense weight, smaller military-grade aircraft, such as the F-15E Eagle, can only carry one at a time. In previous trials, the GBU-28 has pierced 100 feet into the ground and has penetrated up to 20 feet of solid concrete. Not only that, but they are also dropped from a predetermined height of around 20,000 feet in the sky. Many of you may be asking, “How deep can a bunker buster go?” These are incredibly heavy bombs with narrow points. Once the final product was originally completed, it was coined the GBU-28, weighing approximately 4,400 pounds and standing at a whopping 19 feet tall. There are tall retractable fins at the end of the bomb to help keep it stable during flight. Fastened on the nose of the bomb is a laser guidance system, which casts light upon the designated target. Inside, there is over 600 pounds of tritonal explosive, a mixture of 80% TNT and 20% aluminum powder. bunker buster consists of a 16-foot casing and an artillery barrel that is 14.5 inches in diameter and covered with solid steel. This was until the Air Force implemented the bunker buster in the NATO-led bombing campaign against Serbia in 1999 and during the early phases of the Afghanistan and Iraq missions in 20. They also became the topic of discussion after it was discovered that Iraqi underground dugouts were so deep in the ground that no normal bomb could reach them. Recent prototypes for bunker buster missiles began around the bombing campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Suggested read: Should We Be Worried About Russian Military Strength?
